Welcome to ‘Age Concern Whanganui’

Age Concern Whanganui is part of the Age Concern New Zealand network of councils throughout New Zealand. Age Concern Whanganui was established in 1978 under the name of the Whanganui Regional Council for the Ageing.
It became an incorporated society on 1 August 1980 and was renamed as Age Concern Whanganui Incorporated on 26 October 1989. On 29th August 2018 the Constitution was amended and Age Concern Whanganui Incorporated was registered with the Companies Office as at 14th September 2018.

Elder Abuse Response Service

Our social workers are available to confidentially discuss and respond to situations where an older person’s safety or wellbeing is at risk

Health Promotion

Seminars and forums organised on a range of topics relevant and interesting to older people.

Total Mobility Scheme

We complete the Horizons Regional Council Assessments to access subsided taxi fares. An Assessment fee applies.

Steady as You Go Falls Prevention

A unique community-based strength and balance exercise program for men and women. Classes in Whanganui, Rangitikei, and the Waimarino.

Senior Driving Program

More Confidence & Saftey
Ageing affects our driving. Our programmes are designed to helpsenior drivers keep up-to-date with the road rules, be more comfortable and safe in your cars and know the alternative options for when it is safer to stop driving. These programs are popular and get excellent feedback.

Hanging up the Car Keys

Jan has had her driver license like many in her age group since she was 15 – that is over 60 years of driving. I asked her what her first thoughts were if there came a time where she would need to give up driving. “She said she would shudder to think”
